Before visiting American Samoa, it is important that you know the voltage information, electrical frequency, and the electrical outlet and plug types that are available. The available voltage in American Samoa is 120 Volts at 60 Hertz. If you travel to American Samoa with a device that is not compatible with 120 Volts at 60 Hertz, you would need a voltage converter. Electrical Outlet and Plug Types in American Samoa

Electrical outlets in American Samoa accept three kinds of plugs: the ones with flat blades, those with two round pins, and those with V-shaped flat prongs. There are three kinds of plugs available in American Samoa, namely: North American or Japanese 2 blade plug, Shucko plugs, and the Australian plug.

CEE 7/16 Euro Plug and Electrical Outlet

The first type of electrical outlet and plug available in American Samoa is the CEE 7/16 Euro plug which has two round pins with a 19mm diameter between the pins and 4mm length to allow safe insertion in most Type C, E, F, H and Type L electrical outlets. CEE 7/16 is a similar plug with CEE 7/17 though it has larger pins. This kind of electrical outlet and plug was designed for devices with 250 V unearth at 2.5 A. This type of plug is commonly used throughout continental Europe, Middle East, and Africa, South America, central Asia, and the former Soviet Republics.

Shucko Electrical Outlet and Plug

The second type of plug and electrical outlet available in American Samoa is the Type F or the Shucko Plug.  It has two round pins of 4.8mm that is similar to CEE 7/16. Each pin that is for the live and neutral contacts is 19mm long and 19mm apart. Shucko plugs also have two flat contact areas on the top and bottom side of the plug for protective earth (ground). This type of plug was designed for devices with 230 V at 50 Hz and for currents up to 16 A. Shucko plugs and sockets are symmetric AC connectors. The Shucko plugs are safely designed to connect with other types of electrical outlet while Shucko electrical outlets accept other kinds of plugs such as Euro plugs.

Australian Electrical Outlet and Plug - AS 3112

The third type of plug in American Samoan is the Type I or the Australian electrical plug also known as the AS 3112. This type of electrical plug has two flat slanting blades that form an inverted V and a grounding blade. The flat blades measure 6.5 by 1.6mm and are set at 30° to the vertical at a nominal pitch of 13.7mm. There are several AS electrical plug variants, including a 15A, 20A, 25A, and 32A. They all differ in shape and length of the pins though this type of electrical outlet accepts plugs of equal or of a lower current capacity, but not those with high capacity. A 10A electrical plug will fit all AS outlets but a 20A plug will fit only 20A and 30A outlets. This type of electrical outlet and plug is usually used in Australia, American Samoa, Argentina, China, New Zealand, Panama, Tajikistan, Tonga and Uruguay.
