Traveling to Argentina requires you to be aware of the electrical outlet and plug types as well as the voltage and electrical frequency available in this country. The available voltage in Argentina is 220 Volts with an electrical frequency of 50 Hertz. Tourists who wish to bring their gadgets and appliances such as laptops, camcorders, hair dryers or battery chargers should be aware of how to convert to the new voltage, as well as how to connect these appliances to the electrical outlet sockets available in Italy.

There are three available voltage converters in the market: the resistor network voltage converter, the transformer, and the combination voltage converter. The resistor network voltage converters are for devices that use 50-1600 watts. The transformer is for devices  that use 50-100 watts. Electrical Outlet and Plug Types in Argentina

There are two types of electrical outlet and plugs available in Argentina, the Type C or the CEE 7/16 Euro plug and electrical outlet and the Type I or the Australian Plug and sometimes called as the Argentine IRAM-2073.

CEE 7/16 Euro Plug and Electrical Outlet

The first type of electrical outlet and plug available in Argentina is the CEE 7/16 Euro plug which has two round pins with 19mm diameter between the pins and 4mm length to allow safe insertion in most Type C, E, F, H and Type L electrical outlets. CEE 7/16 is similar to CEE 7/17 although it has larger pins. This kind of electrical outlet and plug was designed for devices with 250 V unearth at 2.5 A. This type of plug is commonly used throughout continental Europe, Middle East, and Africa, South America, central Asia, and the former Soviet Republics.

The second type of plug in Argentina is the Type I or the Argentine IRAM-2073 electrical plug also known as the AS 3112. This type of electrical plug has two flat slanting blades that form an inverted V and a grounding blade. The flat blades measure 6.5 by 1.6mm and are set at 30° to the vertical at a nominal pitch of 13.7mm. There are several AS electrical plug variants, including the 15A, 20A, 25A, and 32A. They all differ in shape and length of the pins though this type of electrical outlet accepts plugs of equal or of a lower current capacity, but not with high capacity. A 10A electrical plug will fit all AS outlets but a 20A plug will fit only 20A and 30A outlets. This type of electrical outlet and plug is usually used in Australia, American Samoa, Argentina, China, New Zealand, Panama, Tajikistan, Tonga and Uruguay.

These types of electrical outlet and plug are installed in most residential and business centers in the Argentina. If you wish to go there and bring some of your personal gadgets and appliances, bringing a voltage converter and universal adapter is highly advised.
