Electrical Outlet and Voltage Information for Armenia
Before travelling to Armenia it is very important to know what kind of voltage, electrical frequency, and electrical outlet are available. Armenia’s available voltage is 230 Volts with an electrical frequency of 50 Hertz. The voltage and electrical frequency available for this country is higher than those of in the United State and in Canada that has 110-120 Volts at 60 Hz.
Electrical Outlet abnd Voltage in Armenia
There are only two available electrical outlet types in Armenia. The European CEE 7/16 Euro plug and the European CEE 7/4 or 7/5 Shucko. Electrical outlets in Armenia usually supply electricity between 220 and 240 Volts. That being said, any appliance that was built for 220-240 volt electrical input or that is compatible with multiple voltages need only an adapter to be usable. But if the appliance was built for lower voltages like 110-120 Volts, you will need to use voltage converters to avoid damage to your device.
The European CEE 7/16 electrical plug has a two-pin unearthed plug and is being used throughout continental Europe, parts of Middle Eat, and much of Africa, South America, central Asia, and the former Soviet Republics. The CEE 7/16 electrical outlet and plug were designed for devices that require 2.5 A or less. The plug has 19mm separation from the pins and the pins’ 4mm length allows CEE 7/16 safe insertion in other European, French, Shucko, Israeli and some Italian types of outlets.
The next electrical plug that is available in Armenia is the CEE 7/4 or CEE 7/5 “Shucko.” The term Shucko came from a German word “Schukostecker” which means “protective contact plug.” It has two round pins with a 4.8-mm diameter, 19 mm. long and 19 mm. apart. This electrical plug is used in circuits with 230 V, 50 Hz and currents up to 16 A. This type of electrical plug is very much the same as CEE 7/16. The only difference is that the Shucko electrical plug has two flat contact areas located on the top and bottom side of the plug for protective earth grounding. These two flat contact areas are called the “earth clips.” This type of plug and electrical outlet are used in different countries like France, Belgium, parts of Italy, Spain, Sweden, and Turkey.
So, if you are planning to visit Armenia any time soon, make sure that you bring CEE 7/7 Shucko and CEE 7/16 euro plug adapters and combination voltage converters. With these adapters and voltage converters, you can use any device with different voltage requirements and electrical outlet types that you wish to bring to Armenia.
