Electrical Outlet and Voltage Information for Uzbekistan
Traveling to Uzbekistan requires a cursory knowledge of electrical outlet types and available voltages. The available voltage in Uzbekistan is 220-240 volts with an electrical frequency of 50 Hz. They have the same voltage that is used in China, Russia, South Korea, Greece and the United Arab Emirates. A voltage of 220V is more powerful and so appliances and devices with lower voltages should be used with a voltage converter. Lower voltages like 110V have an advantage over 220V because it is cheaper to transmit, however. Nowadays, electrical frequency is not an issue anymore, especially in terms of compatibility. Most residents and commercial centers in Uzbekistan support multiple frequencies and have different electrical outlet kinds.
Electrical Outlets and Plugs in Uzbekistan
There are three available electrical outlet and plugs in Uzbekistan, “Type C” or the CEE 7/16 Euro plug and “Type E/F” or the CEE 7/4 or CEE 7/5 Schuko. CEE 7/16 euro plug is a flat two-pole domestic AC plug that is rated up to 250 Volts and currents up to 2.5 A. It can be used in domestic power sockets. This type of plug is most commonly used throughout Continental Europe, former Soviet Republics, Middle East, Africa, Central and South America, the Caribbean, South East Asia and the Pacific Rim. That being said, CEE 7/16 has pins that are 19 mm long. They consist of a 9 mm long conductive top, 4 mm diameter with a round ending, and a 10 mm long flexible insulated shaft that is not more than 3.8 mm. in diameter. CEE 7/16 euro plugs are only designed for low-power Class II appliances like hair dryers and food mixers.
CEE 7/4 and CEE 7/5 are very much the same. They are commonly called as “Shucko”. They have two round pins with 4.8 mm diameter, 19 mm long and 19 mm apart. This kind of plug is used on circuits with 230V, 50Hz and currents up to 16A. It also has a protective contact that indicates that the plug and socket are equipped with protective-earth contacts. Shucko sockets are compatible with the CEE 7/16 euro plug and CEE 7/17. Shucko plugs are also compatible with two-pin unearthed sockets and some Danish sockets.
The kinds of electrical outlet or socket available in Uzbekistan are very limited. They only cater to CEE 7/16 euro plug and CEE 7/4 and CEE 7/5 Shucko that has two round pins. They supply electricity at 220-240 volts a/c. An adapter is needed when you are going to use an appliance or any electrical device that was built for 220-240V. Travel plug adapters do not change the voltage of your device. The electricity coming from the adapter will still be the same as the electrical outlet that supplies 220-240 volts.
As such, it would be more convenient to bring gadgets and electronic devices that use the same voltage that is available in Uzbekistan, which is 220-240V. Electronic devices in Uzbekistan that use 110-120V must use a plug adapter and a step-down transformer. You must remember that using appliances that are lower than the available voltage may harm your device or may even start a fire. It is crucial for you to check the sticker at the back of each appliance to distinguish its power source requirement so you can use the appropriate electrical outlet voltage.
For your convenience, it is very important to bring a universal plug adapter and a combination converter when you visit Uzbekistan or any country, for that matter. This way you can use any electronic device or gadget that you need.
